My All-Weather Child

“There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.” - Ranulph Fiennes

When I imagined playing with my child I imagined running around in the water on warm summer days, playing in the leaves in the fall, doing fun art projects or playing trucks or having playdates inside when it was blustery and cold in the winter, playing in the snow, splashing in puddles after a spring rain.

Well it turns out I birthed an all-weather child.  He's like the post office "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night" stays this child from playing outside, up the stairs and down the slide, pushing trucks, throwing and kicking balls, and running around the neighborhood at breakneck speed.

I have stayed outside all morning and afternoon in the sweltering summer heat, searching for some shade while my little maniac runs through and in and out of a splash pad.  Side note, who designed these playgrounds? There is NO SHADE!

We have run around outside in the middle a rain storm and spent endless afternoons splashing in puddles and mud.

Mom-cicle

Mom-cicle

I have stood in multiple playgrounds all around the city becoming a mom-cicle.  Bundled in my down coat, with a pink hat on (think of it as my winter crown) and gigantic mittens clutching my hot chocolate, I you can find me searching out the few slivers of sunlight to stay warm.  All the while Teddy plays without gloves on (can't play in the sand with glove MOM!) for what may as well be like hours.

We have run wind-whipped laps around the neighborhood, and gone to watch the trains when even the trees look like they were going to topple.

NOTHING keeps this kid from wanting to play outside.  I have to say it is pretty awesome.  I have had some of the most fun with Teddy on those cold day running around the park or chasing leaves in the wind or running to the next puddle and the next and the next.

So thanks, kiddo.  Thanks for being so fun and playful.  I can't wait for the Next season and the next and the next with you.  I'll just be investing in better gloves.
