"V" is for Volcanoes!

I must admit, I had been looking forward to this letter inclusion activity for a while and I was pretty sure that Teddy would dig it, too.

This is a perfect activity for any day that you are looking for something different to do. Get a little science in, maybe some vocabulary, have fun! We didn’t study volcanoes or take a deep dive into the science behind much of this - I’m saving that for this summer - we have plenty of time!

Teddy says his favorite volcanoes were the baking soda and vinegar ones. Me, I’m voting for the Mentos and soda :-) What say you and your littles?

BAKING SODA AND VINEGAR VOLCANOES

Ingredients

  • 1 16oz bottle of water - empty

  • 5 tsp baking soda

  • water

  • 1 C vinegar

    How to

  • put 5 tsp baking soda in water bottle

  • fill water bottle 1/3 way with water

  • (for fun) add a few drops of food coloring

  • add cap for transportation

  • dig a hole outside and burry the water bottle half way so it is stable, then build a “volcano” around it with dirt, gravel, sand, anything you’d like. We did rocks and dirt and were able to see how the “lava” melted away the dirt.

  • remove cap to bottle

  • measure out 1 C vinegar and pour into bottle

  • watch with glee!
