I Heart Teddy

Four years ago, July 27 to be exact, Teddy had life saving open heart surgery at Children's National Medical Center.  (You can read the story about his condition and surgery here ). 

Three years ago this week he started walking. 

Two years ago this summer Teddy was running around at his first beach trip. 

This summer Teddy started swimming and jumping off the side of the pool and became a LEGO master.

This year Teddy will start his final year of preschool.

Nothing I just listed would have happened without Children's National and we owe all of our happiness (and sleepless nights and LEGOs stepped on) to them.  Not a day goes by that we don't think about the doctors and nurses and incredible staff at Children's that helped us every step of the way. From day 1 of his life, through his surgery and recovery, and all the way to today, the doctors, nurses, and staff, at Children's have been an important part of our lives.

 We have experienced first hand how lucky we are to have such a world renowned facility in our back yard and we think it is important that we help others have access to the same care our family was so lucky to receive. We owe all of our our happiness to the team at Children's and our family has pledged to do whatever we can to support the hospital and it's mission.

Every fall the Children's Hospital Foundation puts on The Race for Every Child a fun family friendly 5K event in downtown DC with funds going to support Children's National Health System and it's patients.

This race has special meaning to us because it reminds us just how lucky we are to have a now healthy and energetic four year old and how blessed we are to be able to give back.   We would love for our friends and family to come and join us in celebrating Teddy's health and supporting this hospital system and its future patients.  

TEAM I HEART TEDDY

Come and run or walk, race or jog with your stroller or chase your kid along the course, or cheer your kids in the Kid’s Dash!  Even better, just let your kiddos play in the bounce house and get their face painted (and get nice and tired for nap time, winning!).  It's a wonderful day for the family. 

We have started a team for friends and family and anyone else who loves Teddy, too - Team I Heart Teddy (click on the link and you will be directed to the sign up page).  

Anyone that joins our team will  get a team I Heart Teddy t-shirt! This goes for your kiddos, too!  I Heart Teddy onesies - squeeeeeee!

Don't feel like running or walking the 5K?  There are other ways for you take part.  Come out and be part of our cheering squad, the more the merrier! And remember, any donation is a step towards helping another family and the medical teams.  Do whatever you'd like to take part in your own way.  We would love to have YOU as part of team I Heart Teddy. 

Last year I remember watching Teddy run around with his friends and seeing all of the people who came out to support us and it struck me how lucky we are to have a healthy kid surrounded by so many people that care about him.  

I can't wait to step back and take it all in this year, too.
